A half-day study activity organized for MIB students on September 11th, the "Bird's-Eye View of the Future: A Journey of Sustainable Development at Luojia Mountain", blends academic excellence, cultural immersion, and nature connection. More than a nature trip on campus, it’s a symphony of cross-cultural bonds and ecological awareness, where birds become messengers linking hearts of worldwide peers in MIB program at the foot of Luojia Mountain in Wuhan University.

Wuhan is also the world’s only megacity (population over 10 million) crowned an "International Wetland City", a vivid testament to China’s commitment to sustainable development. As the host of the 2022 Ramsar COP14, it showcased global-leading wetland conservation and ecological governance achievements.
Centered around Luojia Mountain, Wuhan University’s campus features serene lakes and lush lawns — havens for over 85 bird species, including protected ones. In order to weave sustainable development into business strategies, the director of MIB, Dr. Lin GUO from the Economics and Management School, invited an award-winning ecologist from the School of Life Sciences, Dr. Chen WANG, to provide professional bird-watching guidance and ecological insights for students in MIB program.
Dr. Chen WANG, with her contagious passion for birds, walked through the main campus, sparking excitement of peers in MIB from China, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Serra Leon, Vietnam and beyond.
Cross-Cultural Exchange of MIB, where Global Minds Meet Diversity Thrives
Teamwork melted the ice fast. While a Chinese student was sharing bird-watching photo, a Thai peer joked about spotting the "most colorful bird on campus". Students in MIB teamed up as adventure buddies to discover birds and stories together.
Students gathered around Dr. Chen WANG to spot little grebes gliding on the water and black-faced spoonbills wading nearby. Upon hearing gasps of "We don't have these back home!", Chinese friends promptly helped to adjust binoculars and to bilingually explain bird habits, turning every sighting into a shared joy. Amid the campus woodlands, when students were the first to spot the red-tailed Daurian redstart, they cheered together with their teams. During breaks, participants often swap stories: One Chinese buddy described the artificial bird nests placed around campus, while some others shared how their hometown protects birds. These exchanges highlighted that the activity was less about birds themselves, and more about sharing different cultures’ shared love for nature.
As the day winds down, cross-cultural bridges are built:
