(Correspondent: Li Ruoyang) From October 14 to 15, the 2025 Donghu Forum, hosted by the People’s Government of Hubei Province, was held in Wuhan. During the opening ceremony, the Global Enterprise Innovation Index 2025 was officially released. The report was jointly developed by the WHU Institute of Data Intelligence, the Big Data Research Institute, the Center for Science, Technology and Education Assessment, and the School of Information Management.
Professor Li Gang, Director of the Institute of Data Intelligence at Wuhan University and Director of the Ministry of Education Key Research Base — The Center for Studies of Information Resources at Wuhan University — presented the report. He explained the background, indicator framework, and the innovation performance of global enterprises in future industries. He stated that future industries represent a strategic domain leading the new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation. They are also key to shaping new drivers for national development and securing competitive advantages for the future. As a crucial entity in the national innovation system, the innovation capabilities of enterprises are of significant importance in driving the optimization and upgrading of the economic structure and enhancing international competitiveness.
Global Enterprise Innovation Index 2025 builds a three-dimensional evaluation system covering knowledge innovation, technological innovation, and innovation collaboration to assess the performance of global enterprises in future industries. Compared with previous years, the report expands its scope beyond strategic emerging industries to focus on future information, future manufacturing, future materials, future health, and future energy, ultimately identifying the Global Top 100 and China Top 50 enterprises in each field.
The GEII series is overseen by Professor Ma Feicheng, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at WHU, with Professors Huang Ying, Zhang Lin, and Li Gang serving as editorial directors. Since its initial release in 2023, this series of reports has garnered attention from numerous media outlets, including Guangming Daily, Science and Technology Daily, China Science Daily, as well as Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily Online, Guangming Online, and China News Service. Relevant special reports have been adopted by central ministries and commissions as well as the Hubei Provincial Committee. Among them, GEII 2023 and GEII 2024 were featured in the international journals Science and Nature, respectively, leading to a continuous rise in both academic and social influence. As a core output of the "Blue Book of Science and Technology Innovation" series, the first of its kind in China to focus on enterprise technological innovation research, this report reflects Wuhan University's academic leadership in the fields of scientific and technological intelligence and innovation evaluation.
