【Academic Exchange】Experts Discuss Applications of AI Large Models and Social Simulation

(Correspondents: Tao Chengxu and Shui Diancheng) Recently, the 20th National Conference on Computer Simulation and Information Technology and the annual meeting of the Computer Simulation Subcommittee of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics were held at Wuhan University. The conference, themed “AI Large Models and Social Simulation Applications,” attracted more than 200 experts and scholars from fields such as information resource management and computer science.

At the opening ceremony, Wu Changjiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Wuhan University Committee, expressed hopes that the conference would deepen research on the application of large models in the social sciences, explore new paths for interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote the transformation of technological achievements to provide systematic and operable solutions for complex real-world problems. Guan Zhongcheng, President of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics, emphasized the importance of leveraging the society’s platform to advance theoretical and technological innovation. Lu Yaobin, Chairman of the Computer Simulation Subcommittee of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics, noted that computer simulation and information technology bring not only application challenges but also deeper reflections on theoretical logic, social ethics, and future societal development. Honorary Advisor Zhang Jinlong stated that simulation, artificial intelligence, and large language models are deeply interconnected, and that the subcommittee will embrace new opportunities for long-term development as digital intelligence progresses.

In the plenary session, experts including Wang Feiyue (Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Cao Shujin (Dean of the School of Information Management, Shandong University of Technology), Liu Hongyan (Professor, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management), Pei Lei (Dean, School of Information Management, Nanjing University), Zheng Xiaolong (Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Jiang Guoyin (Professor, School of Public Administration, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China) delivered keynote reports. Their topics covered data production and knowledge generation under parallel experiments, intelligence fact inference and verification, large language models and human behavior, policy intelligence and policy simulation, deep causal learning and cognitive graphs, and review intervention strategies on sharing accommodation platforms.

During the parallel sessions—themed Intelligent Agent Collaboration and Evolutionary Game Theory, Large Language Models and Knowledge Intelligence, Multimodal Data Processing and Analysis, and Healthcare and Social Governance—participants conducted academic exchanges through paper presentations and discussion.

The conference also features the 11th General Assembly and Council Election of the Computer Simulation Subcommittee. Wu Jiang, President of Wuhan University Press and Professor at the School of Information Management, was elected as the new Chair of the 11th Council.
