Recently, the first volume of Yangtze River Civilization Studies, China’s first large-scale comprehensive journal dedicated to Yangtze River civilization research, was officially published by Wuhan University Press. The publication of this volume marks the establishment of the first authoritative academic platform in the field of Yangtze River civilization studies, representing a significant milestone in building a systematic academic framework and advancing the project for tracing the origins of Chinese civilization.
Breaking through the limitations of single-discipline research, Yangtze River Civilization Studies integrates theories and methods from archaeology, cultural heritage studies, history, anthropology, sociology, ethnology, and other disciplines. It aims to conduct panoramic and in-depth examinations of the civilizational evolution of the Yangtze River Basin. The first volume is rich in content and features six major sections: “Theories and Methods,” “Archaeological Discoveries,” “Archaeological Studies,” “Archaeological Science and Technology,” “Foreign Archaeology,” “Studies of Unearthed Documents,” and “Cultural Heritage Studies,” forming a systematic and open academic structure.
Each section demonstrates distinct strengths and clear logic. “Theories and Methods” explores new paradigms for Yangtze River civilization research; “Archaeological Discoveries” and “Archaeological Studies” present the latest archaeological findings along with in-depth scholarly interpretations; “Archaeological Science and Technology” employs modern scientific techniques to uncover the mysteries behind ancient remains; “Foreign Archaeology” provides valuable comparative international perspectives; “Studies of Unearthed Documents” and “Cultural Heritage Studies” jointly create a full chain connecting the reconstruction of ancient society with contemporary value transformation.
The publication of the first volume of Yangtze River Civilization Studies sets a new benchmark for academic research and opens a new window for the public to understand the profound cultural heritage of the Yangtze River. It will have far-reaching significance for promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of China’s fine traditional culture and strengthening cultural confidence.
