On the morning of November 24, 2025, Professor Shi Junqi, Distinguished Professor of the School of Management at Zhejiang University, was invited to deliver the 229th lecture of the Yangtze Forum at the School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University. His keynote speech, titled “The Effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Human Resource Management (HRM),” was co-hosted by Wuhan University, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Economics and Management. Professor Huang Minxue delivered opening remarks, and Professor Tu Yidong chaired the session.
Professor Shi first examined why artificial intelligence has become a major research topic in HRM, analyzing the evolution of research themes, methodological innovations, and theoretical developments. He discussed the opportunities and challenges brought by the integration of AI into HRM and shared frontiers in AI-driven organizational management research and emerging trends in research funding, offering practical topic-selection advice to young faculty and doctoral students. He then presented his latest research, “Employees’ Reactions to AI Monitoring: A Dual-Path Model,” exploring the psychological mechanisms and behavioral responses triggered by employees’ perceptions of AI surveillance. His insights into new issues, new opportunities, and new methods in HRM research in the AI era sparked lively discussion among attendees.
In the Q&A session, Professor Shi addressed a series of questions, encouraging scholars to engage with real-world organizational issues and to distinguish between phenomena of broad significance and context-specific issues. Using five common types of theoretical contributions as examples, he inspired young researchers to pursue breakthroughs in paradigms, theories, and methodologies.
