【Academic Forum】Wuhan University Hosts the 2025 International Symposium on Social Simulation

(Reporters: Chen Haodong, Qin Wei) Recently, the 2025 International Symposium on Social Simulation was held at Wuhan University. The conference, themed “Human–Machine Co-Evolution: Future Simulation of Intelligent Societies,” drew over 100 experts and scholars from 15 countries and regions including China, Canada, and Russia.

Vice President Lu Wei attended the opening ceremony. He noted that artificial intelligence is driving profound transformations in society, and that Wuhan University has long been committed to interdisciplinary innovation, actively promoting integration between AI and the social sciences to support sustainable governance in future societies.

During the keynote session, Professor Song Xiao (Beihang University), Emeritus Professor Yun Bae Kim (Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea), Associate Professor Ning Nan (University of British Columbia, Canada), Professor Lü Peng (Central South University), Associate Professor Serge Stinckwich (UNU Institute in Macau), and Professor Wei Xiaochao (Wuhan University of Technology) delivered presentations on topics including key technologies in computer simulation, agent-based comparative simulation, multi-agent modeling of digital innovation, large-scale social simulation for urban governance, “Trustworthy AI + Social Simulation” toolchains, and sequential multi-step simulation methods.

Hosted by the School of Information Management at Wuhan University and co-organized by the Digital Business and Industry Research Center at Wuhan University and the College of Economics & Management at Huazhong Agricultural University, the conference featured three parallel sessions on evolutionary game theory in complex networks, large-model-driven agent modeling, multimodal data and social behavior, urban digital twins and governance, socio-ecological system simulation, and trustworthy AI and ethical governance.
